Summary

Describes US sanctions against Iran, how ICT companies respond, and criticism of the effects of the sanctions. Recommends government make sanctions more targeted, grant authorizations, address financial routes, and increase reporting and transparency. Recommends companies consider offering services in Iran for market leadership and human rights/CSR reasons, that companies could collaborate on the issue a la GNI, and that companies that do business in Iran should do a human rights assessment. Recommends civil society continue to advocate and provide information; their assessments of companies (eg Ranking Digital Rights) could include whether a company offers services in sanctioned countries.
