Summary

Paper based on a 2002 lecture claims societies make tradeoffs among democratic discourse, individual freedom/autonomy, social justice/equality, and growth/innovation. Argues commons-based peer production/networked information economy is an opportunity to improve on all four at once. It would be unforgivable to take the opportunity we have to do this, but will require social and political action to create commons-favoring arrangements, which will be opposed by incumbents.
