Summary

Discuss calorie restriction (CR; daily caloric intake typically decreased 15-40%) and three other strategies which may use some of the same pathways and obtain results akin to CR:

  • time-restricted feeding (TRF; limits daily intake of food to a 4- to 12-hour window)
  • intermittent or periodic full or partial fasting (periodic, full- or multiday decrease in food intake)
  • fasting-mimicking diets (FMDs; maintenance of a physiological fasting-like state by reducing caloric intake and modifying diet composition but not necessarily fasting)
