Welcome!

Hello, Daniel, and welcome to AcaWiki! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like it here. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

There's a lot to do around here, so I hope you'll stay with us to add summaries and make many more improvements this wiki needs!Biophysics will be great to have around here! If you need help, take a look at the AcaWiki:FAQ, ask me on my talk page, or check out other ways to get in touch. Again, welcome! Jodi.a.schneider

Howdy, Stranger

Hey, fancy seeing you here! R. D. Jones 01:10, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

For the moment, I am just watching — I like the design but do not see the necessary momentum yet (nor the potential for it to develop, to be honest). But if you are to actually do something here (e.g. a litclub session on the history of MRI), please let me know, and I might well chime in. By the way, first time I see a picture of you, Stranger! Cheers, --Daniel Mietchen 10:35, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

How to Favorite a Page

Thanks for asking about this, Daniel! It's a bit tricky at the moment. You need to edit your own user page and add the title of the page in the line called Favorites. Hopefully in the future you'll be able to add a Favorite right on the page itself! Jodi.a.schneider 16:13, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

Oops! Looks like you commented on my userpage about this before I duplicated that comment here. I've continued the thread there. Thanks for getting involved, Daniel! Jodi.a.schneider 16:21, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
As a result of this discussion, we've removed favorites for now. This simplifies the user entry and means we can wait (probably a while) to improve the entry and display of favorites. Jodi.a.schneider 12:24, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
You also seem to have removed other form fields (blog, links). Don't think this was intended. --Daniel Mietchen 12:59, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

About the Welcome Template

Thanks for giving the Template:Welcome a go! You're right, this is better with a date, but I can't figure out how to automatically get TODAY's, along with the appropriate user's signature. (Last week, I asked in #mediawiki and was told to try something like {{~~}}~~. The conversation had moved on by the time I realized I was still confused and I was too shy to ask again at that moment!)

For now we could remove both date and my username, and just have to add ~~~~ by hand. What do you think? Jodi.a.schneider 12:43, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

That would be a possibility but I'm still puzzled why things like
~~<includeonly></includeonly>~~
do not work — have used them elsewhere with no problems, so I suppose it is due to your settings. --Daniel Mietchen 15:00, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
Do you know where you've used ~~<includeonly></includeonly>~~, Daniel? We can put in a AcaWiki:Bugs report if we need to change a setting. Jodi.a.schneider 02:15, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
Several places; one is here. --Daniel Mietchen 15:26, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
Thanks! I see what you mean. Any idea how to figure out which setting might be causing the problem? I've used MediaWiki but never administered it! Jodi.a.schneider 13:28, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Just tried a different route via Template:2Tildes but this didn't work either (so please delete that page). I'm also not an expert in MW administration. However, the first place to look at would be LocalSettings.php . Besides, is there a reason why you use Version 1.13.2 and not a more recent one? Daniel Mietchen 21:45, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Ok, deleted that page, as requested. Good point--I'll check about upgrading. Jodi.a.schneider 12:19, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the BibTeX Import Comments!

Thanks for testing out the BibTeX Import, Daniel! Going to let Nathan give a first crack at responding to your listserv comments. Meanwhile I've added a "needs summary" tag. Jodi.a.schneider 12:17, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

Manually adding tags does not scale. I would suggest to add a template instead as part of the upload process, i.e. automatically. This template would then check for the presence and absence of different kinds of information, and could be adapted as the site evolves. For an example of similar template functionality, see here. --Daniel Mietchen 12:54, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
This is a great idea! You're right, we're definitely going to need automatic checks. Creating proper MediaWiki templates is outside my expertise but it would really be beneficial! Is this something you'd have time to do? Or have somebody to recommend? (Volunteer or otherwise?) I'm starting a suggested improvements page, where more people may discuss. You're full of good suggestions, Daniel! Do keep them coming! Jodi.a.schneider 11:58, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
I can code such things, though time is an issue. Let's get the description of what that template should do as precise as possible, and then it will be more easy to actually get it off the ground. --Daniel Mietchen 13:04, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Zotero

You can try out my Zotero integration, if you want, here:

Sorry, Mako — this has somehow escaped my attention. Looks very good at first sight! --Daniel Mietchen 20:41, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
