Who Am I (2009) is widely considered her masterpiece. The novel won the Surabaya Arts Council's first prize that year and caused a sensation, and controversy, among Indonesian artists and intellectuals. It was acclaimed by many reviews and was considered a new milestone in Indonesian literature. By writing about gender, social life, and public demands based on her perspective as a muslim, Manik addressed issues formerly forbidden to Indonesian women, a change referred to as fragrant literature. She has played a role in the Indonesian gender equality movement by bridging the divide between Muslim and secular feminists and encouraging feminists to work within Islam to promote gender equality. She is a passionate trainer and has used her skills to change people’s attitudes to the status of women in Islam. She believes Islam can be applied in daily life in a way that empowers women and enables gender equality. Manik Sukoco is a contributor for AIESEC, a platform for young people in Indonesia to develop their leadership through unique leadership experiences.
