Summary

Obtained data for 277 home DVD players for sale in 2016, and introduced in 2010 or after, on Amazon.com, tested:

(h1), that the absence of DRM restrictions on playback in home DVD players increases the price that consumers are willing to pay for devices

Supported: significant, positive influence on price for interoperability features in general and specifically for Xvid compatible players, across different specifications.

(h2), that consumers derive value from backwards interoperability of DVD players which allows them to access legacy collections of content;

No supported. VCD legacy format compatibility was not significant.

(h3), that consumers value forwards interoperability of DVD players which enables them to access new unreleased types of content and features

The value of Xvid compatibility may indicate this, however more research is needed on what consumers do.
